To
see an original stone tablet set the wall of this Coptic Christian monastery at
El Shaieb, connects this religion directly to the 4th. Century. It is located
about 5km from Luxor. The name of El Shaieb, means "The Old Man", this came
from the appearance of the saint as a venerable old man.
Along with the ancient
stone tablet set in the monastery wall, with it's original Coptic script below
the cross, are the shrines of the
late Bishops of Esna bishopric;
Metaos, Michaeil & the monk Michaeil the Ethiopian, all set in the very heart of
the monastery. Their pictures adorn the walls. The monks were quite reclusive
but had no problem with strangers recording their monastery.
