The MR2 Mk1 uses the 4A-GE twin cam 16 valve 1600cc
engine mounted horizontally, amid-ships, with an output of 121bhp. Top speed is
124mph with a 0-60mph time of 7.8 seconds. The gear box is a low ratio 5 speed,
which when married to an engine that revs to 7,600rpm creates a wonderful
"drivers" car. The car has independent suspension and disk brakes all-round and
a detachable glass sunroof. It came with central locking, electric aerial &
windows. Wonderful seats and handling.
Bought from the Northeast, this 1987 D registered coupe was in white with the dark blue cloth interior was described as in "good" condition. It came, originally, from the Channel Islands & has had seven owners.
I sorted the
following items in three years: It had some "wireworm" & was its paintwork was
fixed & wax oiled by John Ashworth in our local village. I acquired an
extra set of reconditioned wheels & tires, sorted out a clunking from the steering,
replaced the battery & renewed the Speedo
cable. It had had a replacement engine which had 30k warranted, 60k previously.
The
car was taxed until Feb 2002, MOT until April 2002 & had just been serviced
previous to purchase. It came with loads of documented history from day one.
Including all it's MOTs, books, Haynes manual & magazine articles.
The car has only one fault ... I couldn't stop grinning whilst I was driving it!
It was sold to a friend in Yorkshire, who has since, sold it on.
Oh where is my beauty now?
